A 2 1/2 month training programme for refugees and migrants living in the Granada region who want to learn how to make a living from the land. La Bolina runs this training twice a year.
Mezquita de la Vega, Poligono El Rey, Atarfe, a small town 30 minutes from Granada city by bus. Bus number 0122 goes regularly between Atarfe and Granada centre.
The training next training starts on Saturday 28 May 2018 and will run on Saturday and Wednesday.
What we’ll learn:
This training teaches how to grow ecological food from the very beginning through to harvest time and how to set up a food growing business.
We will learn about how to grow small scale ecological crops through techniques such as agroecology, regenerative agriculture and permaculture. We will learn and practice soil and land management, irrigation and water systems, pest and weed control, making organic fertilizers, observation and how & when to harvest.
Markets, cooperatives, local businesses:
We will learn about local markets, pricing and ways to sell ecological produce through visiting local cooperatives, markets and enterprises in Granada. With support and mentoring from local businesses and La Bolina's land based enterprise we will learn about making a living from selling fresh produce; consumer groups; specialist and regional produce; production and commercialisation planning. There will be opportunities to get professional experience through training with local businesses.
We will go on field trips to see different ways of growing in Granada’s rural areas. We will learn about existing food systems, their implications and their impacts. We will use games and group activities to explore climate change, cultural diversity and collaboration.
